Stepping Out

Hey Naturalistas!

Today I felt very uncomfortable as I passed out flyers for my workshop.  It was weird coming up to strangers explaining to them why I'm giving them a flyer. At that moment, I knew that I was stepping out of my comfort zone. At times, I get nervous about this workshop, but I know if I trust God and lean to him, everything will work out. I know God has blessed me with this idea and is guiding me the whole way through. I only want to be the background and allow him to take lead. I have all types of emotions, but I know one thing for sure is that I am stepping out. Stepping out was a goal for this year, and I am glad and honored that I'm able to achieve it. I'm so excited and can't wait to help women across the globe.  Whatever you may be dealing with, don't let fear get in the way. Fear is the trick of the enemy and his plan is to steal, kill, and destroy. We can all achieve our dreams, but please let God take the lead. In order for your dreams to come to fruition, you have to step out of your comfort zone. It's going to feel uncomfortable, but I'm here to let you know if I can do it you can too. Here's 3 tips to help you stay focus.

  • Always seek God first because he knows the desires of your heart.
  • Take self out of the equation and let God lead the way.
  • Set a specific day or time to focus on your goals.

Creole White Beans with Chicken

Hey Naturalistas!

I decided that it is definitely time to share a recipe. I am long over due and thought today would be perfect to share this healthy recipe. My family loves this recipe and my husband raves to everyone about it. It's definitely a staple around here and one of the best soups I've ever tried. I know that says a lot, but it really is! I was inspired by Budget Bytes which is an awesome blog for different recipes, but I like to put my own twist to it and to make it quick and easy for my busy family. The soup makes you feel so good inside and the flavors are amazing!  I would love for everyone to try for themselves.

  1. 2 cans of white northern beans or cannoli beans ( drained and rinsed)
  2. 1 Tbsp olive oil
  3. 4 cloves garlic
  4. 1 yellow onion
  5. 4 stalks celery
  6. 1green bell peppers
  7. 1 red bell pepper
  8. ½ bunch flat leaf parsley
  9. Half of a Rotisserie Chicken ( chicken thighs or chicken breast can work too)
  10. 2 Tbsp Creole Seasoning blend
  11. 1 tsp oregano
  12. ½ Tbsp smoked paprika
  13. freshly cracked pepper
  14. 2 cups of brown rice
  15. 6 cups of chicken broth ( 3 cups of broth for rice)
  16. 2 Tbsp of butter for your brown rice
  1. Boil 2 cups of brown rice with 3 cups of chicken broth and 2 table spoons of unsalted butter. Once it boils, let it simmer for 45 minutes.
  2. Mince the garlic and dice the onion, celery, and bell peppers. Pull the parsley leaves from the stems and give them a rough chop.
  3. Sauté the vegetables in a large pot with 2 Tbsp olive oil over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, or until they begin to look transparent.
  4. Add the 2 cans of drained beans, 6 cups of broth, and seasoning
  5. Shred the rotisserie chicken and add to the pot
  6. Let it simmer for 30 minutes
  7. Enjoy!!

Boil brown rice first

Sauté your veggies

Rinse and drain your beans

Add the beans, seasoning, and chicken to the pot and let it simmer

Now it's time to eat! I forgot to add my parsley on top to make it pretty. This is good with corn bread!

5 Ways Your Hair will Grow

Hey Naturalistas!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful day! I've been busy planning for my Mommy and Me Natural Hair workshop that's coming soon. As I was sitting here thinking about hair, I started to think of the many women that say their hair would never grow or that they don't have the type of hair that grows. Well, I'm here to say that if you're believing that about your hair, that is false. Your hair will grow, please trust! Today, I want to talk about 5 ways your hair will flourish and grow! If you take heed to these steps, you will start to see results. If it can work for me, I know it will work for you. Here are 5 ways your hair will grow.

  • Deep Condition- It's important give yourself a deep condition your hair once a week or every other week after you wash your hair. Deep conditioning the hair will reduce breakage and improve your hair's health. Trust me, your hair will thank you for it, so please do not skip this step after you shampoo or co-wash.
  • Moisturizing the hair- is a major key in getting your hair to grow. It's very vital that you moisturize your hair with a leave in conditioner daily. Please make sure that water is the first ingredient in your leave in conditioner.
  • Balanced Diet- Your hair can't grow if you aren't eating a well balanced diet, so please eat those dark leafy greens and drink plenty of water. Your hair will love you as well as your waist line! :)
  • Massaging the scalp- On wash days, it's important that I massage my scalp. Massaging the scalp will lower stress levels allowing your organs to function more efficiently, thus boosting your hair follicle's ability to grow.
  • Happy Fingers- Last but not least, I can't leave out your most prized possession which happens  to be your lovely fingers!!! Your fingers are so much better than a comb when detangling the hair. Once you section the hair and apply a leave in conditioner, you can use your fingers to separate the tangles. I love detangling with my fingers, because you can feel every strand. With a comb, you don't really know what's going on, which could result in pulling unwanted strands and breakage.
